At Heygreen, we are proud of the work we carry out in Science and we were pleased when we achieved the Silver Quality Mark in September 2016.

It is important to Heygreen that we provide many opportunities for children to investigate, research and collate evidence to answer questions scientifically.

Every half term, the children are given a Scientific question to investigate and answer. Below are the questions asked to each year group.

Each class has a working wall located in their classroom that supports the learning during their current topic. Here is an example of a working wall from Year 1:

Below, is the commitment that Heygreen makes to the delivery of the Science Curriculum.

At least one investigation is carried out each half term.

Scientific vocabulary is taught tested each half term to support the children with their spelling and word definition.

A ‘What do I know?’ task is carried out at the start and end of each Science unit.

Science homework is carried out at least twice in the year.

At least one trip will be linked to Science to take place in the year.

The Science working wall is changed each half term, linked to each new topic being covered.
